Match Discount Scheme

Travel Derbyshire is supporting commuting through our Match Discount Scheme. Until March 2025, businesses with workplaces based in Derbyshire can benefit from discounts of up to 20%.

Helping your employees to get to the workplace by bus is a great way to improve employee well-being and retention, as well as boosting your environmental credentials.

How does the scheme work?

Funded by UK Government through the Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP), Derbyshire County Council is topping up the existing discount that bus companies offer to businesses, matching what is already offered.

Five companies are signed up to the scheme so far:

Tickets are provided directly to you by the Bus operator.

How can I get the most benefit from business tickets?

To maximise the benefit for both your employees and your business one of the most effective solutions for passing on the savings to your employees is a salary sacrifice scheme. Depending on the types of tickets, there may be savings on tax and National Insurance contributions, but we advise seeking financial advice before setting up a scheme to increase the savings for your business and employees.

For the more environmentally conscious, employee benefit focussed businesses there is also the option to provide the tickets as part of the employees' salary and benefits package. Like other benefits schemes this has various tax implications but can also deliver savings.

As with any benefit scheme, communication to your employees will be key. Either the bus operators or our team of bus champions would be happy to help deliver effective messaging to your workplace about the scheme and benefits of taking the bus to work.

Also, as part of the initiative the bus champions and operators can discuss with you the suitability of routes for your business and if there are other ways in which we can promote public transport as the first choice for travelling to your workplace.

If you are unsure what to do then please reach out to our Bus Champions at  bus.champions@derbyshire.gov.uk.

How can I access the tickets?

We’ve created a short guide of who to contact (broken down by area, if you are confused about which company is right for you) and how their ticketing options work.  If you are still unsure, we have a team of bus champions who are available to help you out.

Each operator has its own ticketing offer and we’ve worked together to ensure that wherever you wish to travel there are options for more frequent commuters as well as shift, part-time and hybrid workers. Click the options below for further information.
